Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party stalwart Dr. Kizza Besigye has eulogized the former Ankole region Democratic Party (DP) Chairman, Emmanuel Kasaija who passed away on Sunday.
Dr. Besigye described Kashaija, who died at Mbarara Referral Hospital, as a distinguished and committed leader.
“Mzee Emmanuel Kashaija, a distinguished Mbarara elder, political activist- a lifetime DP stalwart (was a close companion of Late Boniface Byanyima) and a warm-hearted, all-round good man, parted yesterday (Sunday) morning, to be with the Lord,” said Dr. Besigye.
The former FDC president sent his condolences to the family of the departed opposition figure, who was also a good friend of his late father-in-law.
“He’ll be dearly missed. My thoughts and prayers go to the family, relatives and friends. Rest in perfect peace,” he said.
Kashaija died at the age of 84 after enduring diabetes and diabetes for many years according to his family.
He is scheduled to be buried on Saturday Oct 17, 2020 at his home in Kibona, Bagashe Ward, Nyakahanga cell.
The late joined DP in 1954 with the late Boniface Byanyima after meeting Benedicto Kiwanuka in Mbarara.
He served as the chairman of DP in Mbarara district as well as the Ankole region from 1980 to 2011 when he was replaced by Evelyn Kashaba.
