Police of Masaka are looking for suspects including former presidential candidate Dr. Abed Bwanika for allegedly attempting to murder police officers in Bukomansimbi on Tuesday.
According to Regional Police, Dr Bwanika and others aggressively confronted policemen who were on lawful duty and started assaulting them.
These allegedly injured one police driver identified as Aguta Charles attached to Bukomansimbi Central Police station.
Bwanika and others are also accused of organising an unlawful procession of NUP supporters on Tuesday in Masaka city during and after the nomination of Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi.
“Dr Bwanika grabbed one of the officers by the neck. He became unconscious and was rushed to Masaka regional hospital for treatment. In the same transaction ASP Namanya Rogers, OC station Bukomansimbi was also injured but he is out of danger,” said Police.
Meanwhile, three suspects have so far been arrested in connection to the offences registered vide SDREF:64/03/11/2020 Masaka central police station.
They are identified as Julius Bbale, Umaru Samula and John Mukalazi.
In the scuffle, Dr. Bwabika was also injured and transferred to Kampala for treatment on Tuesday evening.
He accused one Majid Owepukulu, the Officer-in-charge of Masaka Central Police Station of maliciously hitting him with a pistol.
