DP’s Mbidde Makes U-turn, Backs Bobi Wine for Presidency

The vice president of the Democratic Party (DP), Mr Fred Mukasa Mbidde, has in a dramatic shift declared that he is supported the presidential campaign of Mr Robert Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine.

Mr Mbidde, who has for long been backing DP president Nobert Mao in what they claim is to clean up the party, made the announcement on Sunday while launching his campaign for the Nyendo/Mukungwe parliamentary seat in Masaka City.

He claimed that Bobi Wine is the candidate best placed to defeat YowerI Museveni, something he shared with Mao who also respected his position.

Mbidde, however, faces stiff competition for parliamentary seat from his longtime rival Mathias Mpuuga who in August defected from DP to the National Unity Platform. The seat is also contested by  Ms Sarah Kiyimba of NRM, Daniel Kagiri (Alliance for National Transformation ), Badru Abas Ssenyonga (JEEMA)  and independents Michael Ssekabira, Daniel Ntale and Peter Ssempa.

Mbidde is currently a member of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).
