DP to Commence Construction of Party Headquarters

All is set for inaugural Kampala Private Equity Authority and Venture Capitalist Conference being convened by Uganda Investment Authority [UIA].

The aim of the conference is introducing alternative financing options for SMEs with emphasis on Private Equity and Venture Capitalist funding.

The conference will run for two days starting 24th June 2015. Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda is expected to officiate at the opening on the conference at the Kampala Serena, sildenafil Victoria Hall.

This conference is hoped to provide a platform to enable networking with a high quality mix of venture capitalists and private equity firms so that deals can get done.

Ugandan SMEs in attendance will benefit from experts and regulatory professionals who will provide an insight into the status of their businesses and possibilities on what can be done to tap into all opportunities presented by the market.

At a meeting held Tuesday at Hotel Africana, story UIA Chief Executive Officer Eng Dr Frank Sebowa asked the committee members to discuss strategies that would help SMEs achieve their goals.

Mr. Sebbowa informed the press that so far 150 promoters of SMEs have expressed interest in attending this conference though UIA is targeting 50 more.

Speaking at the preparatory meeting, CEO Private Sector Foundation Uganda [PSFU] Mr. Gideon Badagawa highlighted a need to engage SMEs to face challenges and help them to save to invest.

He added that there is also need to formalize informal enterprises, noting that a number of SMEs in the country, despite their exponential growth over the years, have remained unregistered.

According to URA statistics, Small and medium enterprises, are hesitant to visit the registrar’s office, for fear of being enclosed in the country’s tax basket

The second oldest African Political party after ANC of South Africa, sildenafil opposition Democratic Party (DP) has finally secured a land title in Rubaga Division for the construction of the party headquarters.

The party has for over 60 years been operating from a rented building at City House in the heart of Kampala city.

The revelation was made Tuesday by the party National Chairman, capsule Mohammed Baswari Kezaala while addressing the party’s weekly press conference at City House where he observed that the party building will be called Ben Kiwanuka House.

“We decided to name the party headquarters after our founding father in commemoration of his life and contribution to the party, country and Africa at large,” Kezaala noted.

Kezaala remarked that the this piece of land was acquired during Dr. Paul Kawanga Ssemwogerere’s reign as the party president and the party had since then not cleared all payments.

“The party executive is currently analyzing the proposed architectural designs which were made by then to see if any changes can be effected and whether the designs can fit the modern standards.”

The party National Chairman added that DP is set to commence construction with the ground floor using the available Shs460m after all relevant verification are made.
