The Democratic Party (DP) has suspended its presidential election campaigns to mourn the demise of its member and Kyotera District Woman MP Robinah Ssentongo.
Ssentongo succumbed to COVID-19 on Friday at Mulago Hospital where she had been admitted for over a week.
DP spokesperson Okoler Opio Amani while announcing the suspension of campaigns, described the death of Mrs Ssentongo as a “big loss.”
“As the Democratic Party, we have chosen not to campaign today following the demise of our Member of Parliament for Kyotera, Hon Robinah Ssentongo, now the late. We have chosen not go the field in commiseration with the friends, relatives, in-laws and all of us. It has been a big loss and indeed we pray that God comforts us,” Okoler said.
Meanwhile, DP, Okoler said will use the suspension of campaigns as an opportunity to service its vehicles that have not been serviced since the party began presidential campaigns for its candidate Nobert Mao.
Tomorrow, Mao and his DP team will be in Kampala to plan the final send-off of Robinah Ssentongo.
According to Electoral Commission’s harmonized campaign programme, DP is supposed to campaign in Kampala and Wakiso on Sunday.
