DP Finally Arrives in Kasese to Launch Campaigns

After 2 days of travel from Kampala, the Democratic Party (DP) officials and its presidential flag bearer, Norbert Mao have finally arrived in the Western district of Kasese to launch campaigns.

Mao told reporters in Kampala on Tuesday that he and his DP campaign team would be in Kasese on Wednesday to launch campaigns. However, the people of Kasese have since Wednesday been waiting for Mao but in vain.

Today, Friday, the DP spokesperson Okoler Opio Amani explained why they failed to reach Kasese on Wednesday and the following day of Thursday.

“As the Democratic Party, we were supposed to be this side on Wednesday to launch our campaign but as you are aware, there have been disagreements with the police. We wasted Wednesday and we planned on Thursday,” he said.

However, on Thursday, the DP again didn’t show up.

“We could not come to Kasese unless after harmonizing or changing the program with the Electoral Commission. Yesterday (Thursday), we were granted Friday the 13th November 2020 as being the day we are supposed to be in Kasese,” Okoler added.

Mao said Tuesday before setting off for Kasese, that he chose Kasese to preach healing and reconciliation following a UPDF attack on the palace of “Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu” in 2016 that led to the arrest of King Charles Wisely Mumbere and death of over 100 people.

“We are telling the people of Kasese that for us we are healers, not killers. And that ours is going to be a Government that is to bring respect to traditional leaders and traditional institutions. Some of the things that we have pledged to the people of Kasese is establishing or making Kasese a city because at some point, Kasese has been an industrial city,” said Okoler.

He added that Kasese can be made an industrial city so that the people can benefit from the natural resources they have.
