Dokolo NRM Leaders Abandon MP Flag Bearer

Dokolo North NRM sub-county chairpersons have abandoned the official party flag bearer for Member of Parliament,  Moses Ogwal Goli and instead rallied behind the incumbent Paul Amoru Omiat.
Mr. Ogwal Goli won the flagbearer race in September with 12,607 votes against Amoru’s 11,113. NRM leaders and supporters have since accused Ogwal of mobilizing people from Lira and opposition political parties mainly Forum for Democratic Change and Uganda Peoples Congress to vote for him to carry the party flag.
The NRM sub-county chairpersons include; Geoffrey Opio Ekong of Agwata sub county, Kenneth Owiny of Dokolo subcounty,Tom Aluku of Bata subcounty, Patrick Obia of Adok subcounty, Judith Acar of Okwalongween subcounty, Robert Okwany of Amwona subcounty, Odongo Patrick the chairperson of the veterans declared un their retreat to support Paul Amoru instead of flag bearer Ogwal.
Speaking during the retreat, Geoffrey Opio Ekong who is the leader of the NRM sub-county chairpersons of Dokolo District said the party leaders and members resolved to support Amoru because the recent primaries was marred with intimidation and rigging sponsored by the opposition to get a weak candidate who would be easily defeated in the 2021 general elections.
“We are not going to allow FDC and UPC to play their games and take Dokolo North from NRM,” said Opio.
Dokolo sub-county’s Kenneth Owiny reechoed that there is a planned move to weaken the NRM base in Dokolo District by the opposition through working with a weaker NRM candidate who cannot defend and promote the interest of the party something he says incumbent Amoru has tirelessly worked for.
Attempts to get comments from the Dokolo NRM chairperson Beatrice Molly Kia was futile as her known telephone number was off, but during Friday’s press briefing the NRM Director of Communications Hon Emmanuel Dombo asked the party members to support official party flag bearers.
Meanwhile the flagbearer Moses Ogwal Goli said he cannot force the leaders to support him but asked them and the party members to support his candidature since he is the official party candidate.
“I will not speak for those going against the party position but let me urge them and the NRM supporters at large to support my candidature,” said Ogwal.
