Following Diamond Platinumz and Rayvanny’s song ‘Mwanza’ being banned from playing in Tanzania by the country’s music regulatory board BASATA, the two singers have been fined millions for what has been labeled a ‘dirty song’.
Reports indicate that the singers have fined up to Shs14, 400,000/=.
Despite Diamond pleading with the government to let the song play at watershed hours because of the amount of taxes he pays, BASATA boss Godfrey Mngereza rejected the request saying, “This song isn’t good at all. We even asked Rayvanny in the meeting if he can sing the lyrics of the song before his parents and his answer was no. This is a clear indication that even in the singer’s eyes; the song goes against the morals.”
The fine was dropped on the singers and Wasafi Record label on Tuesday after summoning Rayvanny to explain why he composed the song.
The singers have been advised to re-edit the song or let it stay unknown in Tanzania.
