Tanzanian musicians Diamond Platnumz and Rayvanny’s new song titled Mwanza has been banned by the National Arts Council of Tanzania (Baraza la Sanaa Tanzania) after it was deemed inappropriate for public consumption.
The council claimed that the song which was released three days ago has explicit sexual content that is not allowed.
Currently the song has 11,623,004 YouTube views.
According to Rayvanny in their defense, the song was meant to console families of the 131 people who died in a boat tragedy which was heading to Mwanza on Lake Victoria.
“Whereas BASATA perceived the lyrics of the song to be explicit, it was just a figure of speech meant to console the victims who perished” Rayvanny wrote in a statement.
Mwanza is the 3rd song from Diamond’s Wasafi Records that has been banned by BASATA.
The other songs that were banned are Hallelujah and Waka Waka.
