Defense Secretary Shot While Attempting to Disarm a Police Officer

Police in Kireka – Kira division is investigating circumstances under which an officer shot and injured a local defense secretary on Wednesday night.

According to Police, PC Sam Obotoro, 29, attached to the Kireka Police Station shot a one Paul Mbogo, the in-charge of defense of Kamuli C, after the two engaged in a heated argument.

In a statement by Kampala Metropolitan Police, It is alleged that at around 9 pm, PC Obotoro got into an argument with Paul, who accused him of moving with a Gun at night in his area.

Obotoro, who is currently under custody, said that Paul got him on the way as he was heading to one of the premises he normally guards and tried to grab his gun.

“In self-defense, the officer shot and injured Mbogo in the leg who is now nursing wounds at Gwatiro Medical Centre in Bweyogerere but out of danger,” said KMP deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire.

The officer was arrested on Thursday and charged with unlawful wounding as investigations continue.
