Following State Minster of Lands Persis Namuganza’s complaint that conmen swapped her MTN SIM card without her knowledge and used it to scam people, the telecom company has come up and revealed that are working hand in hand with security organs to arrest the orchestrators.
So far, officials said, they have already arrested two of their staff who aided the fraud.
Addressing journalists Tuesday at MTN Headquarters in Kampala, Mr. Wim Vanhelleputte, CEO MTN Uganda apologized to customers for the incident, saying they have in place sophisticated systems to protect them against such fraud.
He added that such mistakes results from human nature, but in case they occur, their systems are able to identify at what time and who was responsible for such practices.
“We received the report about that fraud and we intervened the same day and detected the fraud within two hours after which we managed to arrest two culprits who are being held in Police custody,” he said.
He added that currently they are in touch with the people who lost their money to ensure that they compensate them all their money they lost in this process.
