Prior to the match, Uganda women cricket team the lady Cricket cranes had opened up the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 Qualifying Series Africa Region at Windhoek with 3 consecutive victories; against host Namibia, Tanzania and Kenya.
Uganda’s winning run was yesterday brought at a cessation with a defeat of 59 runs against a better side, Zimbabwe in a game played at Wanderers Cricket Oval in Windhoek, Namibia.
Zimbabwe who lost the toss, were forced to bat and could later enjoy the fruits of their opponent’s decision when they recorded 161 runs for the fall of 2 wickets after their 20 overs on the crease.
Team Captain Chipo Mugeri led by example hitting 56 runs off 37 balls while Mupachikwa hit 7 boundaries in her 47 run score.
With 162 runs needed from 20 overs to win the game, Uganda chocked with the bat
Only Getrude Chandiru and Saidat Kemigisha gave it a shot but they were eliminated with just 26 and 20 runs respectively before Uganda settled for 102/6, losing by 59 runs.
In the other game, Kenya 117/9 defeated Namibia 99/8 by 18 runs.
The victory sent Zimbabwe direct to the Saturday finals as Uganda and Kenya will face off on Friday to see who joins Zimbabwe in the finals.
Tanzania and Malawi will play each other earlier on Friday for a placement match.
