Kampala Metropolitan Police has lost a senior crime investigations officer to Covid-19.

According to police, Detective AIP Simon Asaba was last week admitted at Mulago hospital in critical condition after testing positive for Covid19. Four days later, he succumbed to it and his passing was announced Sunday at around 3pm.

Addressing the press in Kampala, spokes person Fred Enanga said, “AIP Asaba was exposed to covid-19 at the job and even succumbed to it. His contacts have already been identified and placed in isolation under close monitoring of the Ministry of Health,” he added.

Following his death, Enanga revealed that KMP headquarters, where the deceased has been working, was temporarily closed and sanitized.

ASP Luke Owoyesigire, the deputy spokesperson of Kampala Metropolitan Police described the late as a hardworking man, trustworthy and one of the officers who has never been involved in any indisciplinary actions.

“As KMP, we have lost a very good detective,” he added.

He maintains that the law enforcement body is still observing all precautionary measures and following guidelines to reduce and stop the spread of Covid-19 among police officers.
