Police in the Kampala Metropolitan Area this morning arrested a Church Priest for defying the recent presidential ban on religious congregations, by opening his church for Sunday service.
Msgr. Gerald Kalumba is the Vicar General, Kampala Archdiocese. He was found early this morning leading a Mass at Christ the King Parish.
He was arrested and briefly detained together with a handful of congregants who were found in the Church.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesman Patrick Onyango told ChimpReports that upon being questioned, Msgr. Kalumba said he was aware about the presidential directive but that he believed his church wasn’t too crowded to pose any coronavirus danger.
“His said he had only a few people in the church; that was his excuse,” Onyango told us.
After being questioned, Kalumba was cautioned and released together with his congregants.
