The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) on Thursday handed over 12.5 tonnes of Rice to the COVID 19 National task force that will be distributed to the affected communities during this lock down period.
This was after president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni extended the lockdown for more 21 days till 5th May.
The federation, represented by it’s president Moses Magogo, first vice president Justus Mugisha, third vice president Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi and the CEO Edgar Watson otlined the major reason behind the initiative.
“FUFA has responded to the call by H.E. the President of the Republic of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni who is a great supporter of football at all levels by donating 12.5 tonnes of rice to the National Task force through the Office of the Prime Minister for onward distribution,” said Magogo.
He added, “The donation will also cater for over 2000 football players and officials in the Uganda Premier League, FUFA Big League, FUFA Women Super League and FUFA Women Elite League country wide who are no longer earning without football being played due to the current lock down.”
The National Task force Covid-19 was represented by Minister of General Duties in the Office of the Prime Minister, Mary Karooro Okurut who warmly received the donation and lauded FUFA to the support towards the cause.
“We welcome the donation from FUFA and this will help us add to what we have already received. We encourage everyone to remain fit during this period,” the minister remarked.
FUFA appealed to the task force to directly allocate 10 tonnes of rice to over 2000 football players and officials.
This is help the Federation extend food distribution countrywide to the players and officials that are no longer earning as football is at a halt.
Players from the Uganda Premier, FUFA Big League, FUFA Women Super League and the FUFA Women Elite League will be aided through door to door deliveries.
This will bring the total of food relief extended to the vulnerable families to 12.5 tonnes. FUFA joins Uganda Boxing Federation, Central Motorsports Club and SOM Chess Academy on the list of sports entities that have extended support towards the cause.
