As the number of Covid-19 infections and deaths continue to surge in the country, Kampala Metropolitan Police has embarked on operations to strictly enforce the set Covid-19 guidelines.
Spokesperson SP Patrick Onyango revealed that the operations started on Thursday in the central business district area and will spread to other parts of the city.
According to him, they targeted pedestrians who were not wearing face masks and business owners who were not abiding by the set guidelines by the Ministry of Health.
“Some people have relaxed in terms of putting on masks so the operation is to enforce the directives and it will continue from today onwards,” he said.
A total of 110 suspects were arrested and charged of doing acts that are like to cause the spread of a deadly disease.
These also include managers of several arcades and shopping malls in the city who are accused of deliberately ignoring the standard operating procedures such as provision of hand washing equipment among others.
Suspects are being detained at the Central Police Station in Kampala awaiting to appear in courts of law.
