Covid -19: Kampala City Leadership Task-Force Embark on Sensitizing City Businessmen

The Kampala City Covid-19 Leadership Task Force led by the Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and his Deputy Hajjat Sarah Kayike, have kicked off the exercise to sensitize various City outreaches regarding the Covid-19 pandemic.

Lukwago with his team Monday 23 reached out to Usafi Market and Taxi Park where they provided cans and detergents which will be used during the routine washing of hands.

The exercise which is respect to the Ministry of Health’s directive to decentralize the Covid-19 sensitization at district level is aimed at preventing the population from contracting the pandemic and will see the team visit various common user- facilities including markets, taxi parks and arcades among others.

These measures in addition to those of the Ministry are expected to cater for the masses in common user- facilities including markets, taxi parks and arcades among others which are regulated by KCCA.

Kampala is taking the lead in operationalizing the Ministry’s directive as seen from the various workable guidelines given to the faculty leadership to maintain cleanliness in the city.

While making his remarks during the exercise, Lukwago said that the Task Force has proposed a temporal suspension of collection of rent fees from all the KCCA facilities so as to enable the operators buy their own temperature guns and other gadgets needed in the fight against Covid-19 which are sold expensively.

“I believe exempting the City businessmen from paying rent fees among others, is the only leeway to enable them acquire some of the gadgets used for detecting Covid-19 pandemic.

Lukwago said the move is aimed at enabling operators afford the Covid-19 detecting devices which are currently available in the market at very abnormal costs.

“KCCA does not have a budget to procure these gadgets to all the city facilities at the moment but we cannot sit back and do nothing that’s the reason we are saying these businessmen use what they would pay as rent to procure these crucial gadgets.”

Lukwago also added that this will help motivate businessmen to do mandatory thorough screening of the pandemic right at the entrances of their business premises.

However, ChimpReports understands that move is pending ratification by the Authority Meeting scheduled for March 30, 2020.
