The Federation of Uganda Basketball Association (FUBA) has cancelled all the domestic basketball activities scheduled for this year due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
The decision to cancel this season’s basketball activities was reached on following an Executive Committee meeting held on the Thursday.
“At a meeting held on 23rd July 2020, the FUBA executive committee made resolution that all 2020 basketball competitions as per the FUBA calendar with the exception of the Afrobasket qualifiers, are hereby cancelled,” read the statement released by FUBA president Nasser Sserunjogi.
The Committee also decided that all contractual issues between players and their clubs will be handled in accordance with the contract laws of the country.
Also, players, that had registered with their clubs for the 2020 basketball season, without formal contracts will be handled as per the FUBA rules and regulations of 2020 which provide for a default contract of two years. The two years will therefore start from 2021 onwards.
However, the Afrobasket Qualifiers (international event) were not affected by the development and will still stand on the 2020 calendar.
The Silverbacks (National Men’s team) were pitted in group E alongside Morocco, Egypt and Zone 3 winner.
The 2020 Afrobasket Qualifiers are scheduled for 27th-29th November in Alexandria, Egypt.
