Kampala High Court’s civil division is set to hear an application that seeks to have the body of businessman Ivan Semwanga exhumed.
The application was filed by Abey Mgugu who challenges the burial of bank notes along with the socialite early this week.
The applicant, who is suing Bank of Uganda and A Plus Funeral Services, wants a court declaration that their actions (of allowing burial of bank notes) was illegal.
Moments before his burial in Kayunga on Tuesday, colleagues of the deceased under their “Rich gang” body splashed wine and bank notes, both in Ugandan and South African currencies.
Mgugu therefore, wants the two respondents to open Ivan’s grave and remove the money he was buried with.
“All the currencies of Uganda shillings, South African Rands and United States dollars or other currency that was put/ placed in the grave and buried along with late Ivan Semwanga’s body be removed by ordering the respondents to exhume the said late,” the letter read in part.
