High Court judge Henrietta Wolayo has ordered Godfrey Bangirana, the Police Director in charge of Engineering and logistics to vacate office until the case in which he is accused of illegal stay in office after expiry of his contract is fully heard and disposed of.
“This injunction shall remain in force until determination of the main suit or until further orders of this court,” Wolayo ruled.
The judge made findings that Bangirana’s continued stay in office without a valid contract of execution may bring the Police force into disrepute thereby causing irreparable damage.
In this matter, one Isaac Maddo, a member of Uganda Young Democrats (UYD) petitioned court seeking orders restraining the Police Authority from renewing Bangirana’s contract and restraining him from office until the determination of civil suit 361 of 2019.
In the main case Maddo wants court to order Bangirana to vacate office because his continued stay after expiry of his office is tantamount to abuse of office
However, the judge declined to Maddo’s prayer for a temporary injunction restraining the Uganda Police Authority from renewing Bangirana’s contract on grounds that the request lacked legal basis since the Police Authority cannot be restrained from carrying on its lawful duties
Justice Wolayo also ordered Mr David Mushabe, the lawyer representing the complainant, Isaac Maddo to extract hearing notices for the main case
