High Court Judge Musa Sekaana has ordered security agencies to produce to in court the former Police Director for Crime Intelligence Col. Ndahura Atwooki who was arrested two weeks ago by the army alongside other police officers.
Ndahura was considered one of former Police boss Gen Kale Kayihura’s closest allies and he ran special operations aimed breaking the back of hardened criminal gangs in the country.
Ndahura’s family members through their lawyers from Ochienge Evans and Company Advocates successfully petitioned court seeking a habeas corpus order for the security agencies to produce their client either dead or alive.
In the suit before court, Sarah Ndahura the wife to the applicant says that ever since his arrest on June 11 from Peace Corner Hotel in Masindi town by the army, family members have been denied access to Col. Atwooki Ndahura.
Col. Ndahura was arrested on 11th June 2018 from Masindi and he is currently detained at Makindye military barracks
Justice Sekaana ruled that there is no justification for continued detention of the former police boss without trial.
The arrest of Col Ndahura came just months after the UPDF ordered him to return to the military forces.
His reign in Police was marred by accusations of human rights abuses.
Ndahura’s crime intelligence structure according to officials was “benefitting foreigners who infiltrated the police” and “not helping Uganda at all.”
