A court in Kampala has issued an arrest warrant to the State minister for Tourism, Godfrey Ssubi Kiwanda over failure to pay a loan amounting to Shs100 million from a businessman.
Acceding to the arrest warrant signed by Deo Nzeyimana, the Deputy Registrar of the Executing Division of the High Court, Mr Kiwanda has not honoured his pledge to pay the debt that dates back to 2011.
“Whereas,. Godfrey Kiwanda was adjudged by decree of the Chief Magistrate’s Court of Mengo in Civil Suit No. 3454 of 2011 dated the 4th of April, 2012 to pay the decree holder the total sum of Shs. 104,574,700 as noted hereunder. And whereas the sum of Shs. 104,574,700 has not been paid to the decree holder in satisfaction of the decree. These are to command you to arrest Hon. Godfrey Kiwanda the judgment debtor…unless the judgement debtor shall pay to you the sum of Shs. 104,574,700 together with Shs … as the costs of executing this process, to bring the judgment debtor before this court with all convenient speed,” the warrant reads in part.
The sum according to a break down in the warrant includes a Decretal sum of Shs 38 million at interest of 24% p.a on the decretal sum with effect from March 7 2019 and taxed costs in the head suit and HCMA No. 743 of 2017.
Mr Kiwanda was not immediately available for a comment.
