Court Okays New NRM Nomination Guidelines

The High Court civil division has thrown out an application for a temporary injunction on the new NRM Electoral Commission nomination guidelines that had been filed by a one James Okori.

Okori, remedy sales http://copiproperties.com/wp-admin/includes/image-edit.php a  Kampala International University (KIU) student and aspirant for Busiro South constituency seat took the ruling party’s Electoral Commission to court seeking to reverse the new guidelines which he says are unlawful.

The student in his application in the High Court noted that the new NRM primaries guidelines were unconstitutional and their implementation would affect several members seeking leadership positions.

In his ruling on Friday afternoon, Justice Yasin Nyanzi said there was no indication that if granted, the injunction would favor Mr Okiri, other than disestablishing the work of the party.

The judge said that the balance of convenience only favored the NRM party Electoral Commission that has a tight schedule to run the primaries by way of ballot and granting the injunction would make this collapse.

“The order sought would affect more than 15000 aspirants and flag bearers throughout the country yet the objective of the NRM is to contest for political office in Uganda .The Electoral Commission has issued its program that nomination of MPs is between 9th to 10th November and to meet the deadline, the party must start primaries in time.”

The judge farther alluded that the program is not conducted by the party but the Electoral commission and can’t be reversed for any party unless it’s the whole country.”

In an interview with Chimpreports, NRM EC Chairperson Dr.Tanga Odoi termed as this a broad ruling that emphasized that no one can destabilize the party programs that have already been set.

“We don’t control national election programs and this ruling has emphasized that the party and the country would be injured more by stopping the NRM process as required by some candidates,” Odoi said.

The Commission chairperson urged all members who have not yet picked nomination papers to do it quickly as time is not on their side.

The main suit in which Okori wants court to declare the new NRM Nomination guidelines will soon kick off.
