Nakawa grade one magistrate has this morning released three suspects accused of murdering former police spokesperson Andrew Felix Kaweesi, who were recently charged with aiding and abetting Terrorism.
Hibwagi Sinani, Ali Mugoya and Hirali Ahmed were today released on a cash bail of Shs500,000, while each one of their sureties was bonded at Shs500million non- cash.
The suspects were last year charged for alleged participation in recruiting, training and rendering support to ADF while at various places in Uganda and the DR Congo
Recently the trial magistrate Noah Sajjabi released the suspects on a cash bail of 2 million shillings which the three failed to raise and were sent back to jail.
But having heard the plea of the defense counsel Wameli Anthony, the magistrate today agreed to grant a cash bail that is more affordable to the trio.
“I note that the accused persons have a right to apply for bail but they have to prove that once released they will turn up and they have proved it by presenting substantial sureties,” ruled Sajjabi.
He further verruled the objection by Joyce Anyango the state prosecutor, who had asked court not to release them because all their sureties are from outside Nakawa court’s jurisdiction.
He said the sureties are all Ugandans who presented their National Identity cards and they can easily be traced .
