Buganda Road Grade One Magistrate Joan Ketty Acaa on Wednesday dismissed the case in which Kampala Woman MP aspirant Dr Stella Nyanzi and two others were accused of being a common nuisance.
On July 8th 2020, Dr Nyanzi and two businessmen Godfrey Katongole and Isaac Newton were arrested for protesting against Government’s continued closure of city Arcades as preventive measure against the spread of Covid19.
It was alleged that the manner which they conducted their protest including carrying placards with words “We are tired of the lockdown and you are using Covid-19 to violate human rights.” caused inconvenience to other people in areas of Nakasero Kampala district.
The dismissal of this case followed the Prosecution’s failure to present its witnesses in court on several occasions that this matter has come up in court.
The magistrate dismissed it for want of prosecution because ever since July no witness has ever stepped in court to pin the trio.
This ruling implies that all the three will apply to court for refund of their bail money and other documents they submitted they submitted to court as security.
