Uganda Hippos (U20 team) is just a step away from storming the finals of this year’s COSAFA U20 championship going on in Zambia.
After an impressive run that saw the Hippos top group A and unbeaten in three, the target will be to push the final hurdle with Lesotho the next opponent in the semifinals this Thursday.
There is a timely boost for Coach Matia Lule with the return of skipper and lethal forward Muhammad Shaban.
Shaban returns after serving a suspension following the red card he got against Swaziland and saw him miss the clash against Malawi.
Lule believes Shaban’s return is timely and will help to strengthen the forward line.
“His return is timely because he gives us presence upfront and always put the defenders on tenterhooks,” he said.
However, the coach will have concerns especially in his backline with the two starting fullbacks all ruled out.
Leftt back Mustapha Kiiza is suspended after accumulating bookings while Fred Okot who plays at right back is still nursing an ankle injury.
Like it was against Malawi, Julius Poloto is expected to drift into the right back position while Qatar based Victor Matovu is expected to fill Kiiza’s void.
The other semifinal will see South Africa taking on Egypt with the final slated for Saturday at Nkana stadium.
