The Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF) president, Moses Muhangi has confirmed the postponement of the National Intermediate Boxing Championships.
The 2020 Championships were scheduled to take place from Saturday 21st to Sunday 29th March at Buganda road playgrounds.
Muhangi confirmed the postponement of the long awaited event in a statement dated 19th March.
“This is to inform you that due to reasons pertaining a state of nation address by H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on the COVID-19 pandemic which banned any form of gatherings as one of the measures to prevent the epidemic spread therefore, National Intermediate Boxing Championship have been postponed till further notice and new dates for the event shall be communicated,” the statement reads.
KCCA Boxing Club, COBAP, East Coast, Lukanga, UPDF, Police, Zebra and Nakulabye Boxing Club are among those that were expected to feature in the event.

The National Boxing team, ‘Bombers’ preparations for the 2020 Olympic qualifiers phase two in France were also halted.
Shadir Musa Bwogi, the middleweight boxer is the only Ugandan who secured a ticket for the Olympic Games after successful Qualifiers that took place in Dakar, Senegal last month.
Bwogi was also voted as the Fortebet Real Stars outstanding Boxer of the month of February.
