The federation of Uganda Football Association and the Copa Coca Cola national organizing committee are in a crisis meeting.
Fufa had initially threatened to pull out their referees alleging that Kennedy Mutenyo, a member of the organising committee claimed that some referees have been corrupted by some teams.
On Tuesday before the round of 16 draws, the chairman of the committee Raphael Bwire confirmed to the media and stakeholders sitting that Fufa had planned to pull out.
“There are statements circulating around that some teams are bribing the referees. These rumors are damaging our reputation and putting the game into disrepute,” said Bwire.
“Fufa had even threatened to pull out their referees. We would have looked for our own replacements but we opted to work together,” he added.
An inside source that has attended the meeting informed this website that the organizing committee apologized and promised to warn their colleagues who have been implicated.
“Fufa sent Ronnie [Kalema] to sort out the issue. The committee admitted the mistakes committed by their member and apologized. It is then that Fufa agreed to allow their referees to continue,” our source revealed.
