A man who was recently accused of trafficking Ugandan girls for sex in United Arab Emirates has been killed in a mysterious shooting at a hospital in Kampala.
Al Seyed Ali Jabar, according to Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Luke Oweyesigire, was shot by Zaina Karama, the cousin of his wife at Independent hospital in Ntinda, a Kampala suburb.
Ali had gone to the medical facility to check on his wife who had given birth.
“It is alleged she (Karama) was playing with the deceased’s gun and shot him,” said Oweyesigire on Saturday.
“We are still investigating the matter.”
The shooting occurred at around 10:30am today.
Karama is currently “admitted in the hospital after fainting,” according to Oweyesigire.
She is expected to be charged with murder.
The deceased had earlier been accused of fraud, forging passports and trafficking of girls to the Middle East.
He denied the charges, saying he was a victim of a politicos witch-hunt.
Ali’s nationality was hugely contested.
The bio-data on one of the passports claims Ali was born in Soroti while another showed Kyadondo as his birthplace.
However, travel records show Ali came to Uganda on a Yemeni passport.
Internal Affairs Minister Gen Jeje Odong defended the nationality of Ali, saying he was a security operative.
Odong said in an introduction letter: “Alseyed Ali Abdul Jabar is a native Ugandan holding passport Number. B1597101. He works with the office of the Minister of Internal Affairs on security matters. Please assist wherever and whenever he seeks your help. NB: If in doubt contact the undersigned.”
