Constitutional Court Set to Rule on Case Involving Late MP Namaganda, Gen Aronda

The Constitutional Court sitting in Kampala has issued a schedule for submissions in the case in which Kalungu East MP Hon Gonzaga Sewungu and the late Suzan Namaganda (former Bukomansimbi Woman MP) challenged the involvement of serving UPDF officers in the political affairs of Uganda.

In their petition filed in 2013, the two also challenged the appointment of the Late Gen. Aronda Nyakairima, a serving UPDF officer to the position of Ministry of Internal Affairs saying, which they claimed was a violation of Article (1), (2), (3) and (4) of the Constitution.

This case came up on Tuesday for hearing before a panel of five Justices of the Constitutional Court.

Stella Nakamya the counsel for the Applicants informed court that one of her clients (Suzan Namaganda) passed away and that General Aronda whose appointment was being challenged was no longer a Minister since he passed on.

As such, court gave the applicants five working days to file their written submissions.

The respondents were also given five days within which to file any rejoinder, and the judgement will be delivered on notice.

The justices in this matter are Egonda Ntende, Muzamiru Kibedi, Cheborion Burishaki and Elizabeth Musoke.
