Congolese Kidnappers Demand Shs 4Million to Release Ugandan Fishermen

The Congolese militants who kidnapped ten fishermen from Lake Edward are now demanding Shs 4million as ransom before they can be released.

The ten captives are David Mucunguzi, Innocent Twinomujuni, Shabul Nabasa, Jackson Tumuhamye, Benjamin Tusasibwe, Nicholas Sunday, Kenneth Kabasharira, Nicholas   Tumwesigye, Patrick Bwiho and Jackson Musinguzi, all of them operating from Rweshema landing site on L. Edward in Rukungiri district.

The fishermen were rounded up on Monday evening by the Congolese militiamen when they ventured into the lake to check on their nets.

Capt. Favorite Rwogamu, the Uganda Marine Forces spokesperson says the kidnappers has finally communicated demanding a ransom to release the fishermen.

He however says talks were underway with Congolese government to secure the release of the fishermen.

Mustapha Aribariho, a fisherman at Rwenshama landing site says the kidnapped victims were grabbed on gunpoint by the Congolese gunmen and taken to DRC.

Some other fishermen however, believe that the  Congolese kidnapped the Ugandan fishermen to revenge the frequent arrest of Congolese fishermen.
