Six-time Uganda Premier League winners Express Football Club has embarked on squad reshaping as the 2020/2021 season gets underway.
On Thursday, the Red Eagles let go of 18 players who were not in Head coach, Wassaw Bbosa’s plans going into a new competitive football campaign.
“The technical team had a meeting led by head coach Wasswa Bbosa and reviewed the performance of every single player during the season and we would like to thank all of you for the great job done. But according to the club goal and target next season, the technical team concluded that the following players will not be part of the club next season,” read the letter issued by the club CEO, Isaac Mwesigwa.
Goalkeeper Tony Kyamera, midfielder Lawrence Kigonya “Pantaleo”, winger Baker Lukooya, and David Kakeeto are the names that headlined the long list of disposed players.
Other players who were regarded surplus to requirement at Wankulukuku include Joshua Adea, Mohammed Yiga, Emmanuel Bafoe, Martin Kizza, Joseph Zziwa, Hamis Batega, Andrew Kiwanuka, Hamdan Nsubuga, Axel Konan, Dennis Sserukwaya, Peter Mutebi, Isaac Doka, Shafiq Avemah and Idris Kabonge.
However, Coach Bbosa has kept his faith in the team’s deadly attacking trio of captain Dissan Galiwango, towering forward Frank Kalanda and the diminutive winger Frank Senyondo.
The other Nine players retained by the “Mukwano Gw’abangi” include Mathias Muwanga, Arthur Kiggundu, Daniel Shabena, Musoke John, Sadat Mugeyi, Cyrus Kibande, Sebaggala Enock, Eric Kambale and Ivan Ocholit.
After signing winger Godfrey Lwesibawa, Express is targeting goalkeeper Joel Mutakubwa, Baker Buyala, John Toki Byamukama, Charles Musiige, Steven Luswata, among others.
Last season, the Red Eagles finished in the 9th position with 31 points after 25 games.
