Church of Uganda Launches Plastic-Free Places of Worship Campaign

The Archbishop of Church of Uganda, the Most Rev Dr Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu, has launched a campaign dubbed Plastic/ Kaveera free places of worship.

The campaign is aimed at urging all Christians to stop carrying plastic bags and plastic bottles to places of worship.

The campaign unveiled yesterday at Palace Gardens in Namirembe is supported by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), a global conservation organization.

At the launch the Archbishop asked all believers to stop carrying plastic bags and plastic bottles to not only places of worship but in their daily lives as they do their work.

He noted that that plastics take a long time to decompose which makes them very dangerous to the environment.

He also added that to secure the future of humanity, there should be urgent global action to bend the curve on devastating nature loss.

The Country Director of the World Wide Fund for Nature David Duli said the organization will continue to carry out more sensitization campaigns about the danger of plastics to the environment.

“Having the church take drastic and immediate actions in favor of nature has been one of the new deal campaign advocacy aspirations WWF has had”.
