Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) have mourned the death of Tanzanian pilot, Mr Nelson Venance Mabeyo.
The deceased was the son of Tanzanian army chief General Venance Mabeyo.
Venance died in a helicopter crash at Serengeti National Park in Mara on Monday.
Tanzania media today reported that Auric Air Cessna 208 Caravan (5H-AAM) lost height and crashed soon after take-off from Seronera Airstrip (HTSN), Serengeti, Tanzania.
“The Chief of Defence Forces Gen David Muhoozi and the entire UPDF fraternity commiserate with Gen Mabeyo and his family upon this great loss,” Defence publicist Brig Richard Karemire said in a brief note to ChimpReports today.
“Uganda remains eternally grateful to the people of the Republic of Tanzania and the Tanzania People’s Defense Forces(TPDF)for their brotherly contribution towards the liberation struggle and professionalisation of the UPDF,” he added.
Gen Mabeyo is one of the Tanzania General Officers that trained at the Monduli Military Academy in the same intake as Uganda officers such as Lt Gen Pecos Kuteesa after the 1979 Liberation War.
