Uganda 5-1 South Sudan

Uganda wins 5-1 on aggregate

Uganda Cranes secured a place into the final phase of qualifying for the Championship of African Nations (CHAN) after earning a comfortable victory against South Sudan.

The Cranes put up a fantastic display to ease past South Sudan 5-1 in the game played on Saturday at the Star times stadium, Lugogo.

Midfielder Paul Mucureezi was the hero of the day as he came off the bench to score a double brace. Earlier on, Derrick Nsibambi had given Uganda the lead before sustaining an injury.

South Sudan marched Uganda for the opening half hour of the game and had the initial chances at goal but the Cranes settled before outwitting the visitors.

Derrick Nsibambi broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute brushing Nicholas Wadada’s cross into the goal past onrushing goalkeeper Dak Daniel Khamis.

The striker however got an injury in the process and could not carry on anymore even when he attempted to come back on pitch.

He was replaced by Paul Mucureezi with five minutes to the break and he did not disappoint at all doubling the lead on his first touch after three minutes on the pitch.

By halftime, Uganda had a comfortable 2-0 lead. The second period was a matter of completing the job.

Mucureezi scored Uganda’s third and his second of the game three minutes upon restart completing a great pass from Isaac Muleme.

The winger who was employed as the forward went on rampage scoring two more goals.

Head coach Micho made more changes with Simon Sserunkuma coming on for Muzamir Mutyaba and Tom Masiko replacing Moses Waiswa.

The result means Uganda advances to the next round and will take on Rwanda who ejected Tanzania (1-1) on aggregate.
