Abdallah Mubiru is confident that his Uganda Cranes team will perform better in their road to the 2020 Africa Nations Championships.
Uganda beat Somalia 3-1 in the first leg of their first-round qualifying fixture played in Djibouti on Saturday evening.
Mustaffa Kizza, Patrick Kaddu and Tadeo lwanga scored for the Cranes.
Mubiru lauded Somalia for putting up some quality resistance and his players for standing tall.
“There are no more small teams on the football pitch,” Mubiru said as he tried to downplay Somalia’s underdog tag.
“They put up a tough resistance but I thank my players for standing to the challenge. The win provides a good advantage much as it is not yet over but, at least, it has reduced the pressure on us. We shall go into the second leg with more calm and confidence,” he added.
Uganda Cranes will host the return leg this weekend at the StarTimes stadium in Lugogo.
The aggregate winner will face their equivalent in the pairing between Burundi and South Sudan.
