The world record breaker, Joshua Cheptegei will arrive in the country later today.
Cheptegei was this morning received by the Uganda High Commission officials in Nairobi on his way back home after breaking a 5000 metre world record in Monaco on Friday.
Cheptegei, who posted a timing of 12:35.36, set a new world record surpassing a long standing record of 12:37.35 set by Ethiopian Kenenisa Bekele in 2004.
Ugandans, including President Museveni, Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga, Health Minister Dr Jane Ruth Aceng and other citizens from various walks of life, all congratulated the record breaker.
Cheptegei arrived in Nairobi on Sunday morning and was later escorted by the officials of the Uganda High Commission and Kenyan diplomatic police as he departed Jomo Kenyatta international airport enroute to Malaba border.
Cheptegei, who holds various categories of gold medals, is now Uganda’s best runner of all time.
