CECAFA U17 AFCON Zonal Qualifiers
Uganda 8-0 Djibouti
Ethiopia 4-2 Kenya
Uganda U17 national team progressed to the semifinals of the CECAFA U17 AFCON Zonal qualifiers in oozing fashion white washing Djibouti.
The Cubs put up a remarkable performance to dispatch hapless Djibouti 8-0 in the final group game played at Chamanzi stadium on Wednesday.
Najib Yiga was the star of the day registering a hat trick in the convincing result that guided Uganda to the semifinals.
Thomas Kakaire, Iddi Abdulwarid,Davis Ssekajja and Juma Ibrahim were all on target for the Peter Onen’s coached side.
Uganda came into the game needing at least a win to dislodge Kenya who were in second place.
It is exactly what the Cubs did, easing past Djibouti who have lost all their games at the tournament, whereas on the other hand, the job was made easy with Ethiopia winning against Kenya.
As early as the 9th minute, striker Idd Abdulwarid who plays for Onduparaka Junior team had given Uganda the lead and this seemed to open the flood gates.
Kakaire doubled the lead seven minutes later to bring his goal tally at the tournament to three.
Juma and Yiga too joined the scoring chart with before the latter completing his hat trick in the second half.
There were four more goals in the second half to guide Uganda to its third win at the tournament.
The result meant Uganda finished second in group B and will now face hosts Tanzania who topped group A on 9 points in three games.
The other semifinal will have group B leaders Ethiopia playing against Rwanda who finished second in group A.
The two semifinals will be played on Friday, 24th August with the final expected to be played on Sunday.
The winner of the tournament will represent the region at the 2019 U17 Africa Cup of Nations to be hosted by Tanzania.
