Uganda Hippos kicked of the CECAFA U-20 Challenge Cup with a one-all stalemate with Eritrea at Pece War Memorial Stadium in Gulu on Saturday evening.
Ivan Bogere scored for the home team in the 37th minute before the equalizer came from Yosief Tesfai Mewael in the 57th minute.
Second half substitute Isma Mugulusi who had come on for Najib Yiga hit the post as Uganda rallied for the winner which they didn’t get.
In the other changes, Sadat Anaku was replaced for Ivan Asaba as Steven Sserwadda was introduced for Joseph Kafumbe.
During the earlier group A match played, Sudan humbled Djibouti 4-0 to lead group A with three points.
Both Uganda and Eritrea have a point apiece as Djibouti lies bottom.
At the FUFA Technical center in Njeru, Burundi and South Sudan played to a three all stalemate.
In group A next games, Eritrea will face off Sudan in the early kick off at 1:30 PM on Monday, 23rd September 2019 at the Pece War Memorial Stadium in Gulu while Uganda will battle off with Djibouti at 4 PM on the same day and venue.
