CAF U17 Regional Qualifiers
Uganda 0-1 Ethiopia
Uganda U17 national team suffered defeat in their opening game at the CAF U17 regional qualifiers losing to Ethiopia on Sunday.
Ethiopia won the game played at the Chamanza stadium in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania 1-0.
The all important goal for Ethiopia was scored by Mintesnot Wakjira in the 13th minute and this eventually turned out to be the decisive moment of the game.
Uganda would have levelled matters in the 31st minute but defender Ibrahim Juma who plays for KCCA FC failed to convert a penalty.
The introduction of Ivan Asaba in the second stanza breathed life into Uganda’s attacks but failed to break past a resilient Ethiopian side.
Peter Onen, the head coach of Uganda missed goalkeeper George Oluka, defender Joseph Kafumbe and midfielder Elvis Ngondwe who were eliminated after failing Magnetic Resonance Imaging(MRI) tests.
The Cubs will return to action on 17th August against South Sudan before facing Kenya and Djibouti.
The winner of the CECAFA regional qualifying tournament will represent the region at the U17 Africa Cup of Nations which will still be hosted by Tanzania.
