CAF CL: Onyango’s Sundowns Book Semis Spot as Al Ahly Revive Hopes

PSL champions Mamelodi Sundowns are through to the semifinals of the 2016 CAF Champions League following a lucky 1-0 win over Zamalek FC in a group B clash at the Lucas Moripe stadium on Wednesday night.

Zamalek defender Ali Gabr gifted the ‘Brazilians’ the three points after he diverted Percy Tau’s 79th minute cross into his own net.

The results consolidated Sundowns’ top spot in the group with a match to spare.

Zamalek are second on the group B table with three points and require only a single point when they host Nigerian champions Enyimba FC in Cairo on August 14th.

In the other champions league game played Zambia’s Zesco united shared spoils with Asec Mimosa away in Abidjan.

Mimosa opened the scores in the 75th minute through Kone but was shortlived after Jackson Mwanza’s equalizer five minutes later.

Al Ahly picked their first win in four games away to Wydad Casablanca in Rabat courtesy of Rami Ravi’s early 2nd half goal.

The top two teams in each group go for the semifinals.
