Caf CC: Onyango Sees Red as Sundowns Bow Out

Cranes’ keeper Denis Onyango’s hopes of featuring in the Coveted CAF Confederations Cup group stages fatally crushed, information pills at least for this season, this after the on form custodian was red carded and his club Mamelodi Sundowns ejected from the tourney  following a 2-0 defeat to Ghana’s Medeama on Wednesday.

Sundowns were unfortunate to lose the tie on away goal difference despite a memorable comeback where they overturned a 1-0 lead to win 3-1 in the first leg played on 7th May at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.

Onyango missed the action and was deputised by Wayne Sandilands, pharm the second in the pecking order.

Sundowns’ goals in that game came through Castro, Billiat and Malajiala  in the 80, 84 and 86 respectively.

Eric Kwakwa scored the priceless away goal in the first leg that has finally contributed to the Brazilians exit tonight capped with Wednesday’s heroics by Malik Akowuah and Bernard Ofori in both halves.

Onyango was given direct matching orders in the 65th in what was reported as an ill tempered scuffle targeted to Abbas Mohammed.

The match was played at the Sekondi-Takoradi Stadium.

The Cranes keeper is expected to shift focus to national duty that begins with Zimbabwe build up match on Sunday, 29th May 2016 before taking on Botswana in an Afcon qualifier Group D a week later.
