Byabakama On Why EC Rejected Kaabong FDC Candidate’s Withdrawal

The Electoral Commission (EC) has come out to explain why it blocked Ms Adyaka Nalibe of the FDC, from pulling out of the Kaabong District Woman MP.

Justice Simon Byabakama the EC chairperson, citing Section 19 (2) (a) of the Parliamentary Elections Act, says Adyaka’s withdrawal notice was incomplete because it lacked the signature of the party’s secretary general.

“She did present her notification to the commission that she is withdrawing from the contest.  However, she did not comply with Section 19 (2) (a) in that her party which sponsored her candidature, did not sign and file the said notifications”, Byabakama told MPs on the legal affairs committee yesterday.

Asked whether Adyaka had resumed campaigns, Byabakama couldn’t confirm, adding that a decision to declare the National Resistance Movement’s Christine Nakwang unopposed hung in balance.

“As Electoral Commission our hands are tied” he said.
