Bushenyi Police Arrest MP Mbwatekamwa as He Moves to Unseat Minister Magyezi

Police in Bushenyi district have released Hon Gaffa Mbwatekamwa, the Kasambya County MP without any charges after he was arrested on Sunday afternoon while delivering a donation.

The MP was arrested in Kakanju sub county as he delivered his second ambulance to Kakanju Health Center III in Bushenyi district.

He was later taken into custody at Bushenyi Central Police Station before he was released without being charged.

Mbawatekamwa now plans to run for the Igara West parliamentary seat which is currently held by Local Government Minister Raphael Magyezi, in the 2021 polls.

After his release, the MP castigated Police for being ruthless and interfering with his work and that of the media.

He said he had allowed journalists to take his pictures but the police came and chased them away.

The MP said he is not going to be intimidated by anyone and added that next week he will be back to deliver his third ambulance to Nyabubare health centre.

Others in the race for the Igara West seat include; Prof. Tarsis Kabwegyere the minister of general duties office of the Prime minister who lost to Magyezi in the 2016 polls,  Domaro Adrine, Horace Muhabuzi, Adam Kyakuwa among others.
