Police in Bushenyi are investigating the circumstances under which a medical student in Ishaka committed suicide by drowning in pond of water.
The deceased was identified as Gideon Ndamire, 23, who was pursuing a medical course in Ishaka.
He hailed from Bunanura zone Kakanju Parish Bushenyi District.
Tusiime Martial, the Greater Bushenyi police spokesman says, the deceased left a written goodbye note behind before drowning himself.
He says the deceased was identified with the help of a national identity card he left on the bank of the pond.
Mbangira the father of deceased revealed that his son left home on Saturday 2nd January 2021 and they thought he had gone to visit his friend until his body was found floating in the water pond.
However, some close friends of the deceased revealed that Ndemire had vowed to kill himself if his parents rejected his girls friend.
“Ndemire brought his girlfriend to his parents and they rejected her saying she was old and their son was young and still studying,” said a close friend to the deceased.
He added that when the deceased left his parents’ home and went back to Ishaka, he told his pals that if his parents continued to reject his girlfriend, he would kill himself.
“I highly believe that Ndamire’s parents could have rejected his girlfriend and this is the reason he committed suicide,” another medical student says.
