Bushenyi: 2 Police Officers Arrested for ‘Suffocating Suspects to Death’

Police in Bushenyi has in detention 2 police officers accused of killing two brick makers.

The arrested are Constables Prossy Kyomugisha and Patrick Nuwamanya attached to Nyeihanga Police Station; who were arrested during the weekend.

The Rwizi region spokesperson Ibin Senkumbi says the two officers chased 2 brick makers for an arrest after they fleeced a customer of some money.

The deceased were identified as Manisur Tayebwa a Rwandese national and Denis Ainemani 22, what is ed a resident of Rukoni in Ntungamo district.

The police mouthpiece says Manisul and Denis double-sold their bricks at a brick quarry found in Kashuku Sheema district.

However one of the buyers reported the matter to police after failing to return his money.

The said police officers took over the matter and hunted the two suspects without success until Friday when they chased them and they hid in a cave in the brick quarry.

The officers used tear gas and smoke to force them out of the cave but unfortunately they suffocated to death.

Senkumbi says the officers left the scene and never informed anybody about the matter until one of the crime preventers found out and reported to police.

On Monday, residents, some of whom had seen police officers on the quarry, stormed Nyeihanga and Sheema police stations.

Senkumbi adds that the two officers were arrested and handed over to Bushenyi Police Special Unit (PSU) to take over the matter.

He said the officers applied a lot of unprofessionalism in carrying out the arrest and that if proved that the deceased died of suffocation, they will be charged with man slaughter.
