The newly elected President of Burundi Évariste Ndayishimiye has Saturday morning appeared publicly, calming the fears that had started spreading about his health.
Following the sudden death of the country’s outgoing president Peiree Nkurunziza on Tuesday, reports started spreading that Ndayishimiye himself was unwell.

The reports on social media suggested that he had been admitted at Bumureki Hospital in Bujumbura while others claimed he had been diagnosed with Covid19.
This morning however, President Ndayishime showed up looking healthy and paid tribute to the fallen president.
He and staff members of the ruling CNDD-FDD party signed in the condolence book in honour of the deceased president.
Ndayishimiye is set to be sworn in as President following yesterday’s Constitutional Court decision which ruled out the possibility of swearing in an interim president (the Speaker of the House of Representatives), pending the official commencement of the new presidential term in August.
