Bukalango Chief Priest Summoned

Buganda Road Chief magistrates Court has issued summons to the Bukalango Mt. Zion Prayer Centre’s Chief Priest to show up and take plea on charges of conspiracy to defame another priest.

Msgr. Expedito Magembe was today summoned   by Grade One Magistrate Suzan Anyeko alongside five other people on an amended charge sheet, cost for allegedly defaming Rev Fr Jacinto Kibuuka. Msgr. Magembe is expected to be in court on May 27, pills to plead to the charges of conspiracy to commit a misdemeanor contrary to section 391 of the Penal Code Act

Magembe’s co-accused include Mr. John Baptist Mukajanga, there a preacher at Bukalango, Nathan Senkomago an editor with a local newspaper, Mr. Battu alias Battulumayo, the priest’s driver, Ms Annet Kaitesi a businesswoman and Ms Milly Kirungi, a teacher at Najjanakumbi Junior School.

These now bring to eight the number of the charged in relation to this case.

Late last year, the same court had charged only two people who are Winfred Nantongo and Semei Wessali a production manager at Delta TV with criminal libel contrary to section 179 of the Penal Code Act.

Prosecution contends that during the month of January, 2016 the accused persons conspired to give false information and published defamatory matter concerning the person of Rev Fr Kibuuka alleging that he had sexually assaulted and threatened a congregant Ms Nantongo.

Ms Nantongo is as well independently charged with another count of giving false information to a person employed in the public service contrary to section to 115 (c) of the Penal Code Act .

The state claims that the suspect on January 20, this year at Central Police Station gave a one Detective Denis Odongo police officer false information that she had been threaten by father Kibuuka well knowing the said detective would invest his time investigating the matter.
