The outgoing cultural leader of the Inzu Ya Masaaba, the Bugisu Cultural Institution, Sir Bob Mushikori has passed on, the institution Prime Minister in charge of Umukuuka Office, Mathias Nabutele has revealed.
Nabutele confirmed Mushikori’s untimely death on Monday evening but didn’t avail more details on the cause.
He said the out-going Inzu Ya Masaaba Health Minister, who also doubles as the Umukuuka personal doctor, will release a complete report on the death soon.
Mushikori, who died from his residence in Senior Quarters, Northern Division in Mbale City, made his last public appearance on January 1, 2020, at Islamic University in Uganda during the official handover of the Rector Office from Dr. Ahmed Kaweesa Ssengendo to his successor, Prof. Ismail Gyagenda.
The late leader has been battling a diabetes related illness for some time now, in June last year, he was rushed to Nakasero Hospital with intervention of State House after receiving reference from Mbale Main Hospital.
Mushikori rose to the helm in 2015 as the second Umukuuka replacing his predecessor Wilson Wamimbi who was the first Umukuuka.
In December 11, 2020, Mushikori was replaced by John Amram Wagabyalire whose enthronement is underway.
