With about eight days to the highly anticipated 2017 Buganda Masaza Cup final, the organizing committee has unveiled the necessary strategies to have a colorful end to the tournament.
After 5 months of competition amongst the different counties of Buganda Kingdom, Singo and Gomba reached the finals.
The organizing committee and Owek Henry Ssekabembe the Minister in charge of youth, sports and recreation revealed the plans for the finals in a press conference held at Bulange on Thursday.
Owek Ssekabembe confirmed that the Kabaka of Buganda will grace the final slated for August 26th at Mandela National stadium.
“I am pleased to announce that His Majesty the Kabaka of Buganda will preside over the final match between Gomba and Singo at Namboole,” he said before indicating that this year’s tournament has been a success in several aspects.
“The tournament has this year registered overwhelming support through sponsorship and increased number of fans,” Ssekabembe noted.
“I think besides the Uganda Cranes, no other football match attracts crowds in Uganda as Masaza Cup and that is a success for us,” he added.
Suleiman Ssejjengo, the chairman of the organising committee indicated that the 2017 edition has registered several successes and has rallied fans to come in big numbers on the final day.
“We are satisfied that the tournament has been a success, despite the few challenges. The organizing committee, team managers and sponsors have worked hard to have the games go on,” he said.
The gate charges for the finals will be Shs10,000 and Shs30,000 for ordinary and VIP tickets respectively.
Singo who eliminated Busiro in the semifinals take on 3 time winners Gomba who ejected defending champions Buddu.
Buddu and Busiro will battle in the third classification game at 11:00 am on the day of the final.
The winner will get a cash prize of Shs10 million on top of what they have got straight from the group stages.
15th August – Announce date and venue of the Masaza Cup, to inform the activities and the budget for the event, distribute match day program.
16th August – Meeting participating teams to promote order in the presentation of the teams on the final day of the match. Issuing of Invitation cards.
21st August- Match Coordination meeting.
22nd August – Sponsors’ forum to discuss the rights and obligations of the sponsors.
23rd-25th August – TV and Radio talk shows
26th August- Finals
31st August- Review meeting
